Ralph Smith was inducted into the Excellence in Education Hall of Fame during homecoming last week. Congrations to Ralph and thank you for your service!
Randy Heitz's daughter Amy was the Rochester Women's Tennis League champion.
FCMC hosted a family physician candidate last week with support from several Rotrains. Dr. Molly Olson and her husband toured Charles City and will be making a decision in the coming weeks.

It's Scrap Metal Drive Time (Oct. 5-12) - We need your junk and volunteers to help with the metal collection! Volunteers are needed for evening and weekend shifts. Concession Stand - Oct. 18 - Our Club will be working the concession stand at the football games on Oct. 18. See Kay to sign up. 2 shifts available.
Satellite Club - The Satellite Club will host their next meeting on Tue. Oct. 15 at 5:15pm at The Pub. Regular meetings will be the first and third Tuesdays of the month.
Fun & Frolic:
Program: Dr. Angela VanGilder from Floyd County Medical Center told the club about the new Vein Procedure Clinic offered at the Medical Center and outlined the procedures offered. If you are interested in additional information or screening, please contact Dr. VanGilder at FCMC.
Quarterly Salad Option - In an effort to address member requests for salads, the Club is going to offer a salad option next quarter. Members can choose to have a salad instead of the main entree for the quarter. Those taking the salad meal can still take the other parts of the regular meal (bread, dessert, drinks, etc.). The cost will remain the same. See Marcie to try this option for a quarter.

World Polio Day is 24 October! Mark your calendar to tune in for Rotary International’s World Polio Day Online Global Update, streamed on Facebook in multiple time zones and languages around the world. This year’s program will highlight the heroes of polio eradication, with stories from polio-endemic and recently impacted areas.
District 5970 News
District 5970 was recognized at this year’s Zone Institute in Kansas City last week. Our District finished second in our Zone (which includes 23 districts) in total giving ($207,549) to polio eradication in 2018-19. Thank you for your continued giving to the PolioPlus fund. Even though a few new cases are still being reported, we’re almost across the finish line, so now is the time to keep the energy going!
Program Opportunity - Katie Wilford, District 5970 Global Scholar for 2018-19 has recently returned from her year of study in Melbourne, Australia, where she received her Master of Education degree. During her year she attended 29 Rotary meetings at 17 different clubs in two Districts. She volunteered 127 hours of time on Rotary and Rotaract projects. She also co-hosted a “Rotary In Action” radio program. Since returning to Iowa she is looking forward to telling her story to Rotary Clubs around Iowa.
